Local Hotel Guide: 6 Kelowna Events to Enjoy in August
Whether you enjoy sipping wines straight from fruit growing vineyards or rocking to the best in live music or cheering on athletes as they race towards the finish line, August in Kelowna has it all. Why not book into your Kelowna hotel suite and enjoy everything from vineyard concerts and tasting events, theatre and operatic performances, a classic rock music festival, and more cultural, culinary and sporting events than you can shake a stick at.
We’ve chosen just six to whet your appetite:
1. For ABBA Lovers
With the film sequel to the very popular stage musical now on the big screen, why not see the original performed on stage to all of ABBA’s greatest hits right here in Kelowna. The Kelowna Actors Studio presents Mamma Mia! Aug. 2-11, with matinee and evening showtimes at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
2. Rock to Canadian Classics
Just steps away from Okanagan Lake is the 3rd annual Rock the Lake weekend festival, Aug. 10-13. Catch some of the best Canadian classic rock artists such as Randy Bachman, Men Without Hats, Northern Pikes, Barney Bentall, Glass Tiger, The Stampeders, Doug and the Slugs, Little River Band, Nazareth and more as they hit the festival grounds at Prospera Place.
3. Opera Under the Stars and Gypsy Arias
Why not combine Comfort Suites Kelowna hotel deals such as our Kelowna Shopping, Stay and Vacation or Romance Packages with a night at the opera to see Opera Kelowna’s popular and free open-air concert, Opera Under The Stars, Aug. 1 at 8:30 p.m. at the UBC Okanagan campus. If you can’t make that performance, the company is also staging a passionate and fiery performance of George Bizet’s Carmen, with nightly performances Aug. 16-19 at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
4. The Trifecta of Sport
One of Kelowna’s most popular summer sporting events is the Apple Triathlon. This year’s event, Aug. 18, will see athletes from all over the country and the world compete in the Triathlon Canada National Championships and the ITU CAMTRI Continental Cup. For athletes looking for hotels in Kelowna with a pool, 24-hour fitness centre and jetted hot tub to help them train and relax, contact the Comfort Suites accommodation in Kelowna to book your room.
5. One Stop for Okanagan Wine Tours
Meet local winemakers, farmers and small vineyard/winery owners and taste the fruit of their labours at the Garagiste North Wine Festival at Sperling Vineyards Wine Shop and Tasting Room, Aug. 19 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. More than 25 small wineries will be represented with food prepared by RauDZ Regional Cuisine available for purchase. A pop-up wine store will allow you to take your favourite wines home with you.
6. Off the Bone
If the smell and sight of barbecue makes your mouth water, then you’ll want to head to Kelowna City Park for the Interior Savings Sunrise Rotary RibFest, Aug. 24-26. Dive into fall-off-the-bone ribs and chicken and enjoy live stage entertainment, family activities, market vendors and more. And best of all, admission is free.
