Although smaller than the metropolises of Vancouver and Calgary, Kelowna has some things that those cities don’t — Okanagan Lake and vineyards as far as the eye can see for a starter. The best way to enjoy the city is to experience it as a local by checking out some of these activities and attractions in our Kelowna hotel guide.

1. Do the Town on Two Wheels

The Okanagan is a great place to put your pedal to the metal. Whether you’re a mountain bike enthusiast, a cruiser, or want to pretend you’re in the Tour de France riding in the peloton, you’ll feel right at home cycling with the locals in Kelowna.

For those staying at hotels in Kelowna without bikes, we recommend Kelowna’s new bike share program, Dropbike. Bikes are available to rent at various “havens” around downtown, and you can find and unlock the bikes through Dropbike’s app.

Once you have your wheels, be sure to pedal along these Kelowna biking routes and trails, including:

  • Mission Creek Greenway
  • Myra Canyon and the Kettle Valley Rail Trail
  • Okanagan Rail Trail
  • Knox Mountain
  • Lakeshore Road

2. Get Out Your Inner Beethoven

From symphonic to opera to rock, Kelowna is known as a great music town. Whether you want to catch a free summer concert at Parks Alive or see a big-ticketed event at Prospera Place or the Kelowna Community Theatre, you’ll find no shortage of venues and shows in town.

For something truly unique, why not put on your own concert with the pop-up pianos found as part of the Pianos in the Park initiative. The 8 free, playable and accessible pianos, all painted and decorated by local artists, can be found in public spaces throughout Kelowna in the summer months.

3. Savour Some Local Flavours

Known as the Napa of the North, Kelowna and the Okanagan is not only known for producing world-renowned wines, it is also becoming known for its microbreweries and distilleries. Many Kelowna establishments offer tasting rooms and even eateries, where you can wash down your ale with some delectable local cuisine.

These include:

4. See the City from the Rooftop

In summer, Kelowna residents love to eat outdoors at places where they can view the lake and city life, people watch, and enjoy some delicious food and drink. You can too by visiting these rooftop patios downtown at:
